Before You Buy — What Makes Soy Candles Different

We want you to feel confident and excited about your purchase. If you're new to 100% soy candles, there are a few things worth knowing before your order arrives. These aren't flaws — they're signs of a genuinely handcrafted, natural product.

Soy Wax vs. Regular (Paraffin) Candles

Most mass-produced candles are made from paraffin wax, a petroleum byproduct. Our candles are made exclusively from 100% soy wax, which is plant-based, renewable, and burns cleaner. Here's how they compare:

Soy Wax Paraffin Wax
Source Soybeans (natural) Petroleum (synthetic)
Burn time Longer Shorter
Soot Minimal More soot produced
Scent throw Softer, more natural Often stronger but harsher
Appearance Matte, may show natural variations Smooth, uniform

Frosting — A Sign of Pure Soy

You may notice a white, powdery coating or crystalline texture on the surface or sides of your candle. This is called frosting, and it is completely natural. It occurs when soy wax recrystallizes over time and is actually a sign that your candle contains real, pure soy wax with no additives. It does not affect the scent, burn quality, or safety of your candle in any way.

Color & Appearance Variations

Because our candles are poured by hand in small batches, no two candles are exactly alike. You may notice:

  • Slight differences in color shade from batch to batch
  • Uneven or textured tops after cooling — this is natural and expected
  • Small air bubbles or sinkholes on the surface
  • Slight variations in scent strength depending on the fragrance blend

These are all characteristics of a genuinely handmade product and are not considered defects.

Scent Throw — What to Expect

Soy candles have a softer, more true-to-life scent compared to paraffin candles. The scent throw (how far the fragrance travels) depends on a few factors:

  • Room size — soy candles perform best in small to medium spaces
  • First burn — always allow the melt pool to reach the edges of the jar on the first burn for the best scent experience going forward
  • Wick trimming — trim your wick to 1/4 inch before every burn for a clean, even flame and optimal fragrance release

Phthalate-Free Fragrances

All of our candles are scented with phthalate-free fragrance oils, meaning no harmful chemicals that are commonly found in synthetic fragrances. You can burn our candles with confidence in your home.
