Candle Care & Safety

Candle Care & Safety

We want you to enjoy every single burn safely. Candles are beautiful โ€” and they're also an open flame. Please read these simple rules before lighting up! ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

๐Ÿ”ฅ Before You Light It

  • Trim your wick to 1/4 inch every single time. A long wick makes a big, smoky flame. A short wick makes a clean, safe one. Use scissors or a wick trimmer before every burn.
  • Place your candle on a flat, heat-safe surface. Think a plate, a tray, or a candle holder โ€” not a plastic table or a wobbly shelf.
  • Keep it away from anything that can catch fire. Curtains, paper, books, fabric, hair โ€” keep at least 12 inches of clear space around your candle.
  • Make sure the room has some airflow, but avoid burning near open windows or fans. Moving air can cause uneven burning and flare-ups.

โฑ๏ธ While It's Burning

  • Never leave a burning candle alone. If you leave the room, blow it out. Always. No exceptions.
  • Keep children and pets away. Little hands and curious noses don't mix with open flames.
  • Don't burn for more than 4 hours at a time. After 4 hours, blow it out, let it cool completely, trim the wick, and then relight if you'd like.
  • Never touch or move a burning candle. The jar gets hot. The wax is liquid. Wait until it's fully cooled before picking it up.
  • Don't burn all the way to the bottom. Stop burning when there's about 1/2 inch of wax left at the bottom of the jar. Burning past this point can overheat the container.

โœจ The First Burn Is the Most Important

This one really matters! The first time you light your candle, let it burn until the melted wax reaches all the way to the edges of the jar. This is called a full melt pool. If you blow it out too soon, the candle will start to tunnel (burn down the middle only) and you'll lose a lot of your candle. For a 4 oz candle, this usually takes about 1โ€“2 hours.

๐Ÿšซ Never, Ever Do These Things

  • โŒ Never burn a candle near flammable materials
  • โŒ Never use water to put out a candle flame โ€” it can cause hot wax to splatter
  • โŒ Never burn a candle in a closed cabinet or enclosed space
  • โŒ Never let the flame touch the side of the jar
  • โŒ Never burn a candle that has a damaged jar, lid, or wick
  • โŒ Never fall asleep with a candle burning

๐Ÿ˜ด How to Put It Out Safely

The safest way to extinguish a candle is with a candle snuffer โ€” it puts out the flame without sending hot wax flying. If you blow it out, do it gently. After blowing out, make sure the wick is standing straight up and not bent into the wax.

๐Ÿงด Storing Your Candle

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and sunlight can cause the wax to soften, discolor, or lose fragrance.
  • Keep the lid on when not in use to protect the scent and keep dust out.
  • Avoid storing near vents, radiators, or windowsills.

โ™ป๏ธ What to Do With the Empty Jar

Once your candle is done, the jar doesn't have to be! Remove any remaining wax by placing the jar in the freezer for an hour โ€” the wax will shrink and pop right out. Then wash with warm soapy water and reuse it as a planter, a pen holder, a makeup brush cup, or whatever you like. ๐ŸŒฟ
